MAINSTAY'S VOLUNTEER SERVICES

Mainstay's 100+ volunteers are utilized in almost every aspect of our agency's programs and are a vital part of Mainstay's team and delivery of services. Last year, over 12,500 hours were contributed by volunteers manning the following positions: Front Desk Volunteer, Options Coordinator, Resale Store Worker, Court-ordered Educational Program Volunteer, Youth Program Volunteer, Courtroom Volunteer, Handyman, Speakers Bureau, and Board of Directors.

Volunteers Presently Needed:
(All volunteers receive training for their positions.)

Resale store volunteer- This volunteer works one shift (10 am-1 pm or 1 pm-4pm) each week, Mon-Sat, in our resale store, The Purple Ribbon. Duties include running the cash register, assisting customers, tagging merchandise, and keeping the store neat. All profits from the store are used to run the Mainstay shelter.

Front Desk Volunteer- This volunteer answers the telephone and forwards calls to the appropriate staff or volunteer, greets all guests and helps out with clerical duties as needed. Works one shift per week, Mon-Fri, from 8:30 am-12:30 pm or 12:30pm-4:30 pm.

Childcare Volunteer- This volunteer assists staff with supervision of children while their mothers attend support group or counseling. Mondays 6 pm-8 pm and Thursdays 5:30-8:00 pm.

Donations Sorting Volunteer- Accepts items from donors, sorts donated items, and prepares them for the resale shop. Helps in the furniture resale area when needed. One morning or afternoon each week, but the schedule can be flexible.

Options Coordinator- This volunteer works directly with our clients and takes crisis calls, screens and admits clients to shelter, provides advocacy, information and referral. Works one shift per week, Mon-Fri, 8:30 am-12:30 pm or 12:30 pm-4:30 pm. (Note: Options Coordinators must work for a period of time as a front desk volunteer prior to filing the OC position and must undergo extensive training.)
