October is domestic violence awareness month and we want you to be involved! We
are inviting you to join many other brave men in Henderson County to "Walk a Mile in
Her Shoes®". Mayor Greg Newman; McCray Benson, Henderson County Community
Foundation; Greg Burnette, First Citizens Bank; Mark Warwick and George Henry,
WTZQ, are just a few men who have accepted this challenge. Will you?
The challenge is to get as much sponsorship as you can to walk a mile in a pair of
women´s high-heel shoes up and down Main Street in Hendersonville. The event
will be Friday, October 10, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. Prizes will be awarded for the three
generating the most sponsorship.
We believe this is a great way to bring much needed awareness of domestic violence,
which happens every day in our own backyard, and at the same time bring much
needed funds to our domestic violence emergency shelter.
Please accept this fun and rewarding challenge. We will also have the Blue Ridge
Roller Derby Girls skating beside you to give you support as you walk in those
fabulous stilettos!
Please call Cindy Streetman at Mainstay 693-3840 to join and give your shoe size.
On behalf of the Mainstay Board, staff, and all the women and children you will aid
with your support, thank you!

On behalf of the 2008-2009 Board of Mainstay, I am excited to inform you of some of our up-coming events.
On October 10th at 6 p.m. we are asking any able-bodied member of the male citizenry to put on a pair of high-heeled shoes and walk a mile up and down Main Street to raise funds for our shelter. (Should anyone of YOU feel so inclined, please call Tanya or Cindy to volunteer your support) They will also be carrying a pocket-book (NOT a male-bag) to help gather in the dollars. Then on Halloween weekend we will be having our 2nd annual Camp Howl-O-Scream at Camp Ton-A-Wanda on Little River Road.

Please check for more details in a few weeks.
As you know, the revenue from the Purple Ribbon is the main source of funds for the Mainstay Shelter. Please support our store by donating usable items. We are now offering pickups for heavier items. Call Mainstay for further information. We would welcome any of you to visit our facility should you like. And, as always, we would appreciate your financial support for our programs. Speaking of programs, we have some exciting up-coming plans to expand our family services, which you will hear about in up-coming newsletters.
As a long-time (almost 40 years) on-and-off resident of Hendersonville and Flat Rock, I can assure you that Mainstay has been and will continue to be a very important part of the support services of Henderson County. Please feel free to contact us with any ideas or suggestions to make our shelter even more valuable.
